U12 ‘Cobh Credit Union’ Hurling Street League Finals Night. Friday, 12th November saw the curtain come down on the U12 Hurling Street leagues competition with the playing of the Plate and Shield finals followed by the final proper for the Michael Hayes Trophy. In the shield final Cuchulainns’ just held off a late challenge from Setantas’ to win by a score of 6-1 to 5-1, while in the Plate final Na Fianna came out on top by a single point over The 40’s. After 7 Friday nights in-a-row of hurling the weather was kind to us on finals night and the U12 leagues came to a fitting end with the Gaels winning the Michael Hayes Trophy in the U12 final proper with a victory over a gallant Crokes team. A big thank you to all who helped with setting out the pitches, organising the teams and running the shop over the seven weeks of the tournament. A special word of thanks to Nick O’Callaghan who refereed the majority of the games and to all the family and friends of those involved who came along to give their support. Most of all, well done and thank you to the boys and girls who made up the six teams and played in the biggest ever U12 hurling street league competition held in Cobh. Well done for turning up on time for your games over the seven weeks, for giving of your best throughout the tournament and for making this years street leagues a great success. Hopefully you will all enjoy the winter break from Gaa activity and come back to training when the hurling and camogie seasons start up again in February/March of 2011. Next week we’ll have an account of the U7 & U9 finals day as well as the Medal presentation party.
Table Quiz in aid of ‘Schools Gaa Coaching’ initiative, Friday 19th Nov. at 8:30pm. All proceeds from the Table Quiz go directly to funding the coaching of Gaa in the National schools of the Great Island, all support will be greatly received.
