Ramblers Push For Promotion On Tuesday Night

Published

on

A very young Cobh Ramblers team play Airtricity League First Division side Salthill Devon FC at St.Colman’s Park on Tuesday 2nd Nov in the first of a two-legged promotion/relegation decider. Ramblers, who finished runners up to a powerful UCD side in the Newstalk A Championship Group 2 table this season, go into this game on the back of a 1-0 home defeat by Leeds in the Munster Senior Cup in Cobh on Wednesday night which saw Emmet O’Hanlon get his marching orders for twoo bookable offences.

The young side have without doubt proved themselves this season and the general opinion is that as a side they play extremely well together. After a disastrous 2009 season in the A Championship (finishing bottom on only six points), Ramblers now have the chance to return to the League of Ireland proper were they to be successful against Salthill.

The questions on everyone’s mind are ‘can the club survive in the First Division with such a young side’ and ‘what the financial implications might be’. It’s no big secret that Ramblers have been through turmoil over the past couple of years and may sell or (have sold: awaiting confirmation) the ground to the FAI to enable them to pay the Inland Revenue a hefty sum in outstanding taxes. Currently, the only wage being paid to the team is for the services of Manager Dave Hill who really has to take a great deal of credit for his team getting the club this opportunity to bring LOI teams and their support, as well as local support, back to St.Colman’s.

The club are appealing to the Cobh public to come out and support the team’s promotion push!!

Kick Off at St.Colman’s Park on Tuesday night is 7.45pm. Admission for is €5.00 for adults and €2.00 for under 12’s
