The Springfield Ramblers Schoolboys Football Club is pleased to announce that work is progressing rapidly on our new training facilities at Cobh Community College. The development which is being constructed in partnership with Cobh Community College will be a state of the art facility with the best available synthetic grass playing surface and floodlighting offering the latest in sports-lighting technology is located on the site of the old all-weather pitch to the rear of the college. It is envisaged that the facility will be ready for use in the first week of October 2010.

The facility will provide a solution to the training needs for the 300 children of the club which has been a burden on the finances of the club for many years. The club will have nine teams competing in the Cork Schoolboys Leagues in the coming season and each team will have dedicated times allotted for training each week on the new pitch. The younger players in the Club Academy will also enjoy the new facilities on Saturday mornings.

The pitch will include 3 full five a-side pitches with dressing rooms alongside. The development is being built by Thornton’s Sports with McSherry lighting being responsible for the Floodlighting. Ger Neff of Neff design is the engineer engaged by the club to oversee the project.

At a recent meeting parents of the older teams were given a presentation by Chairman Cathal Rasmussen and Treasurer Kieran O’Callaghan. Details were given of all aspects of the development which included construction, costs and hours. The club would like to thank Cobh Credit Union for working with the club and agreeing to give us the loan to build the pitch. The club would also like to thank all parents for their support of the new project and are looking forward to many years of use on the new pitch.

The club is especially grateful to Cobh Community College for their partnership in this venture. The school management came on board with the concept and were very enthusiastic about the project from the start. The benefits that the facility will have for the school’s P.E. programme will be invaluable according to Vice Principal Tom Jones. The school would like to welcome the public along to view the facilities at the forthcoming Open Night on Tuesday 5th October.

Outside of the allotted training schedule the club will be offering the pitch for hire to local clubs or groups of individuals for a limited number of hours every week. Rental rates and available hours have yet to be determined. Any interested parties may contact the club at springrams@gmail.com.
