Cobh Pirates Notes 21st Sept

Cobh Pirates J1s fought a gallant battle only to go down to Tralee on a scoreline of 30-17. This youthful Cobh side came up against a well drilled Tralee outfit, with the forwards having to work very hard throughout the 80 minutes. This game saw Mick Keating play his first full competitive game in the front row, and do so against an established Tralee front 3. With a strong scrummaging team Tralee had Cobh under pressure in the tight from the off, with Cíarán duignam playing at 8 doing well to gain any go forward play. With Tom Keavney working tirelessly in the tight, the ever improving Kevin Allen had another impressive outing in the loose. As the game progressed Cobh began to dominate the lineout contest, a testament to the work done in training.
Jack Hickey straightened the line at every oppurtunity in the backline with John Barry Murphy giving a very honest display both in defence and attack.Cobh saw tries from Alan Langford, Mark Chandler and Brendan Mulcahy and Joey Hoyne kicked a conversion. Although an All Ireland spot was not achieved this young team have  alot to look forward to in the season to come.
The Junior 2s have yet to complete a competitive game, with last Sundays Dennehey cup semi final being abandoned due to a potential dangerous injury to a Cork Constitution player. The game was only in the early stages with a very young Cork outfit  having a 5 point lead. Cobh Pirateshave since learned the player was not seriously injured.
This game has now been refixed for Sunday 26th September at 12 noon in the Paddock. The Junior 1s will also entertain Cork Constitution, in a friendly, k.o. at 2.30 pm.
