Cobh’s Lady Golfers in All-Ireland Finals!
Maeve Troupe Kelly and Noreen Halpin from Cobh Golf Club are traveling to the All Ireland Finals in Carrick-on-Shannon on 23rd August, to compete for glory in the prestigious ILGU Australian Spoons competition. After winning qualification on club level, the pair also won the Munster qualifiers, at East Cork GC on 21st June, and are now proudly regarded as Australian Spoons Munster Champions .
The Australian Spoons, presented to the Ladies Golf Union in 1969 by the Australian Ladies Golf Union, sees each club run an 18 hole Greensomes stableford competition. A pair from each Club then goes forward to their District Final (in our case the Southern District final). The top 5 pairs and the pair with the best gross score in their District Final participate in the All-Ireland Finals in Carrick-on-Shannon The funds raised go towards helping elite players participate in International tournaments.
