COPE FOUNDATION LAUNCHES ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC

People supported by Cope Foundation will be joining teams of golfers and taking to the course this summer to raise funds to empower people with an intellectual disability and/or autism.
Cope Foundation’s Golf Classic takes place at Lee Valley Golf and Country Club on the 9th and 10th of June. It’s the 26th year of the event which is supported by O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors.
The event is one of Cope Foundation’s biggest fundraising initiatives, generating much-needed funds for the Cork-based charity. Last year’s Golf Classic raised over €59,000. The organisation supports 2,800 people with an intellectual disability and/or autism to live ‘Your Life, Your Way’.
Cope Foundation Chief Executive, Sean Abbott says: “The annual Golf Classic is one of the highlights of our fundraising calendar, and we are proud to have people we support competing once again. Sport is a great equaliser and it is also a fantastic way to start conversations around rights and equality for people with an intellectual disability and/or autism. Our aim at Cope Foundation is to work with the people we support helping them to live the lives of their choosing whether that’s playing sport, living independently or reaching their own personal goals. The Golf Classic has raised more than €1.7m over the years funding projects and programmes that empower and support people across Cork city and county. That wouldn’t have been possible without our sponsors, corporate supporters and donors.”
Micheál Ó Mulláin, Partner at O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors says: “We are delighted to be part of Cope Foundation’s annual Golf Classic fundraiser. The Golf Classic is always a great day out and we would encourage the business community in Cork to register teams and support this incredible Cork charity.”
Ailbhe Barrett, who is supported by Cope Foundation adds: “I have been playing golf for a long time. I really enjoy it, I used to go to the driving range in Blarney quite a bit. I took a break from golf for a while, but I’m back playing now and I love it.”
Golfers are in with a chance of winning a 100% Electric Peugeot e2008 SUV in the Hole in One Competition, kindly sponsored by Johnson & Perrott Motor Group. There will also be a ‘Nearest The Pin’ Competition sponsored by Carbery Group, a ‘Longest Drive’ Competition sponsored by First South Credit Union Ltd., and goodie bags sponsored by Lidl.
Teams of four people are invited to book a place at the Cope Foundation Golf Classic online at www.cope-foundation.ie/Golf-Classic or get in touch with Cope Foundation’s Communications and Fundraising Team on 086 7912540 or email murphye2@cope-foundation.ie.
