International Nurses Day is celebrated annually on 12th May, the birthdate of Florence Nightingale and what a huge debt all of us owe to these frontline health care workers?  Not just this year but always– this year maybe we’re more aware because all of us know the huge toll and the enormous challenge nurses everywhere, everyday, face and a pandemic just amplifies this!

This year’s theme for INO is “A Voice to Lead”: the nursing staff at Mercy University Hospital with Director of Nursing Margaret McKiernan, who is a also a member of the Cork LGBTI+ InterAgency Group,  are certainly leading the way as frontline warriors for a healthcare system that recognises the uniqueness and diversity of every one they encounter and the interconnectedness of us all. Thanks to all the nursing staff who took time to show their colours to mark #IDAHOBITDay and welcome LGBTI+ Awareness Week which will be celebrated in Cork from  May 16th to 22nd .

Margaret McKiernan said that the Mercy University Hospital is proud to serve on the Cork City LGBTI+ InterAgency Group. The Mercy Hospital is committed to being a place of inclusion and diversity.
