Join the Mercy University Hospital Foundation for this year’s Women’s Mini Marathon on Sunday, September 22nd
With Cork’s annual Women’s Mini Marathon on the horizon, The Mercy University Hospital Foundation is now inviting you to join the 2019 #TeamMercy and be part of one of Cork’s biggest teams on Sunday, September 22nd.
Last year, over one hundred ladies joined #Team Mercy, raising €8,800 for The Mercy Cancer Appeal, funding key services and advancements in the treatment of and research into many cancers, and funding The Mercy Cancer CARE Centre. In recent weeks, as a result of the continued support from the people of Cork and Munster, The Mercy University Hospital Foundation secured an exciting location The Mercy Cancer CARE Centre.
By joining #TeamMercy for the 38th year of the popular event on September 22nd, ladies and (lads) will once again be supporting The Mercy Cancer Appeal and the development of The Mercy Cancer CARE Centre. Supporting the needs of cancer patients and their families, the development of a dedicated Cancer CARE Centre will enable the Mercy University Hospital to provide a quiet, safe place for patients and families to help them deal with their cancer diagnosis or to receive ongoing support during their cancer journey.
With their running and walking shoes at the ready, a host of ladies who work within a number of departments at the Mercy University Hospital will be joining #TeamMercy on September 22nd. One of the ladies joining #TeamMercy on September 22nd is Carmel Walsh who works within the MUH Bed Management Unit. Commenting ahead of September 22nd, Carmel said, “Each day (we) the staff of the unit are exposed to the stress, anguish and turmoil patients and their families face awaiting diagnosis, surgery, treatment and symptom relief management. Our units mission statement leads with the declaration that the patient is the core of our focus at all times and our team here at the MUH Bed Management Unit, as well as our colleagues throughout the hospital are delighted to be part of Team Mercy on September 22nd, doing whatever we can to make a patient’s journey that little bit easier.
Carmel continued, “We urge you to support Team Mercy on Sunday 22nd September for vital funds needed to improve the patient’s journey during such testing and difficult times. We are very much aware that cancer does not distinguish class, gender, age or creed and could impact on any of our likes at any stage. Help us look after the people of Cork.”
Caitriona O’Mahony, Fundraising Officer with The Mercy University Hospital Foundation added, “We are very thankful to everyone who has joined #TeamMercy over the past number of years we look forward to meeting all of #TeamMercy this year. Without this fantastic support, none of what we do would be possible. Unfortunately, the number of cancer diagnoses are on the rise and we want to do everything we can to make this journey that little bit easier for our patients and their families.”
Whether you want to walk or run with #TeamMercy, it promises to be a great day out for all ladies and wannabe “ladies”, followed by a fun after-party at The Old Oak with complimentary finger food, cocktails to celebrate and relax.
If you would like to join #TeamMercy on Sunday, September 22nd, call (021) 4274076 or visit www.mercyfundraising.ie to register.
