The 2017 Triathlon season has been a busy one so far for Cobh Triathlon Club. In recent weeks we have seen members head up and down the country to compete in a range of Sprint, Olympic and Half Ironman distance races. We also have a couple of international half and full Ironman under our belts as well as numerous swimming and cycling events. Last weekend several members took to the River Blackwater to complete the first Blackwater Swim-3.5km starting from the grounds of Michael Flatley’s mansion in Castlehyde.

Great times were posted and by all accounts it’s one for the calendar next year. We also had people head to Dublin to race over the Olympic Distance (1.5km swim, 40km cycle, 10km run). The club was well represented by Jessica Bruton, Brendan Ryan & Jonathan Kenneally. Jess being no stranger to the podium finished 4th woman overall in a tough field winning her age category. This year has been a big one for her as she has taken a step up to the Super Series competing as a Category 2 athlete. We are super proud of our home grown super series athlete. Other highlights of the season to date have included first triathlons for new members Caroline Schaefer, Stephen Pender and Rory O Connell with more to come.

Cobh Triathlon Club is delighted to have welcomed new members this year and have enjoyed watching people progress from race to race. Next up are Crosshaven, Dungarvan, and the mammoth Lost Sheep in Kenmare so watch this space! If you have any interest in learning more about triathlon please check us out.
