On Friday, 10 March 2017, The Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir will be spending an intimate evening performing some of their gospel and contemporary classics at Fota House. They will be joined on the night by special guests Richard Bunn, tenor, who will be performing the “Russell Watson” set (arias that the choir performed with international opera sensation Russell Watson as part of his Up Close & Personal tour in November 2015). Also featured on the night will be the unveiling of a specially commissioned gospel piece by singer-songwriter Aoibheann Carey-Philpott, entitled ‘Carry Me’.
Formed in 2010, based on a need for an inclusive, community choir in the locality, the Carrigtwohill Gospel Choir’s humble origins has blossomed into a collection of amateur and professional singers whose main approach to this beloved genre is to sing with passion and joy. Having grown in number from those early days, the 50 choristers boast an international ensemble, with members from France, Denmark, Nigeria, Scotland and of course, Ireland.
To date, the choir has performed all over the city and county in concerts and festivals, as well as becoming a popular choice for wedding ceremonies. 2016 saw the choir enjoy their first TV appearance as part of Coco television’s “Don’t Tell the Bride” series. Also a first for the choir was a memorable performance in Cork City Gaol as guests of the White Horse Guitar Club and legendary American pianist, David Syme. The choir’s first music video was debuted on Youtube in 2016 and features many of their most requested songs.
For lovers of Choir and Choral singing, this is an evening not to be missed.
