The people of Cobh have campaigned hard for a new town bus service over the last number of years. It was a petition of over 1,400 Cobh people submitted by The Cobh Town Council to The Department of Transport that finally led to a licence being granted to Butlers Buses which allows them to run this service. Many people worked tirelessly in the background to get the service of the ground such as Mayor of Cobh, Cllr. Paddy Whitty, Cllr. Paddy Histon and Cllr. John Mulvihill Jnr. to mention a few.
This new town bus service has been a long time coming but is finally ready to roll for the first time on Monday 30th November.
This timetable is comprehensive to suit all age groups and will focus on train commuters, school goers, shoppers and people going about their daily business.
Timetables have been distributed to local shops on route and can also be downloaded from www.butlers-buses.com/cobhbus – Because the timetables are comprehensive and will be new to bus users, Butlers Buses said they would be delighted to take your calls on 021 4811660 to explain any aspect in detail. You can also check out their Facebook page to ask questions or read answers given to other people.

Ian Butler said “The people of Cobh can expect a new and improved fulltime service which will offer great choice, shorter journey times and an extended timetable. Reliability and good time keeping will be our top priority. We expect to learn a lot in the first few weeks when this service goes live and have made arrangements to produce an updated timetable for January 7th to include any changes/improvements. We would love to hear any questions, queries or comments that will help us to improve our service” Ian says “Getting the licence was hard but I can not emphasise enough that the real challenge now lies ahead. We need the people of Cobh to get fully behind this service, leave their cars behind and discover the benefits of using the town bus. We need strong support to ensure Cobh enjoys a first class town bus service for many years to come”.
In these tough economic times, it would be easier to ride out the recession and avoid expansion. Butlers Buses have listened to the people of Cobh and have risen to the significant challenge of turning our town service into an all year round profitable venture. This is to be commended so let’s give them our full support.
Ian concluded “As an introductory special offer we have set our fares at a flat ?1.00 for adults and kids alike from November 30th right up to and including Christmas Eve. Pensioners of course will always travel free”
