The U15 team from South Cork headed to Ashbourne last Friday to face Leinster side Mullingar during the half time break at the Ireland vs France Womens Six Nations match.

South Cork was formed last October by combine the girls’ squads from Carrigaline, Cobh Pirates, Highfield and Midleton rugby clubs, and has teams represented in both the U18 and U15 pan-Munster leagues.

The opportunity to travel to Ashbourne came from a competition organised by Munster Rugby, in which clubs were asked to produce a short video about their club and girls teams.  The entry from Cobh Pirates (http://youtu.be/QZ9KsqmD01w) was selected, along with one from Waterford side, Carrick-on-Suir.

Prior to kick off of the Six Nations match, South Cork along with Carrick-on-Suir, Navan and Mullingar formed a guard of honour for the Ireland and France players coming onto the pitch.  During the half time break, the four girls’ sides took to the pitch, with Carrick facing Navan and South Cork facing Mullingar.  These high tempo games were a great showcase for girls’ rugby.

Next up for South Cork is a league match at home to Clare side Kilrush on February 28th followed by a trip away to Carrick-on-Suir on March 14th.

Within the clubs, new members are always welcome.  For more information contact
