Cobh Camogie News
Having emerged from the group stages with victories over Ballyhea, Ballinora and
Ballinascarthy the Cobh Camogie Juniors were drawn away to Glen Rovers in the semi-final of the Summer Cup. The girls shrugged off the underdogs tag with a win on a score line of 5-3 to 3-6. This win saw them qualify to face Na Piarsaigh in the final. The two sides played out a thrilling draw with extra time still unable to separate the teams. Early in the second half Cobh had been seven points in arrears but for the remainder of the game gave a display rich in skill, fitness, determination and
commitment which meant the final had to go to a replay.
On Sunday last the two sides met once again at Cork Camogie headquarters at Castle. It was a far more tense affair than the first encounter with scores from both sides being at a
premium in the early stages. The Cobh girls put in a scoring burst of 2-2 in the closing minutes of the first half to give them an eight point cushion at the change of ends.
With neither side troubling the scorers until well into the second half, Na Piarsaigh registered 1-3 to leave two points between the sides entering the closing minutes of the game. However, a sterling defensive display ensured that Cobh would not be beaten and ended up winning on a score of 2-4 to 1-5 and so retaining the trophy that was won last year. Cobh scorers: Erica Field 2-0, Katelynn Quinlan 0-3, Nicole Sawani 0-1.
