Regina Flavin from Rushbrooke, Cobh scooped a gold medal in the CupCakes Class at the recent Sodexo Salon Culinaire, the annual culinary competition run by foodservices company Sodexo Ireland for its 1,800 staff working in 200 site locations throughout Ireland. Regina, who is business manager for Sodexo at Merck Millipore, joined hundreds of chef and non-chef competitors battling to win top honours in over 18 competition classes.
Regina’s entry was three deliciously flavoured cup cakes; one chocolate one lemon and one pumpkin, presented in cups and saucers made from flower paste and with the company logo printed on edible fondant. Regina said, “I was delighted not only for my own win but also because my work colleague Agnieska Smyrda took home two gold medals for her entries in the Decorative Novelty and the Filled Gateau classes. We’re still celebrating!”
Margot Slattery, managing director, Sodexo Ireland, presented Regina with her gold medal and said: “Congratulations to Regina on her excellent medal win. Salon Culinaire is a great opportunity to showcase staff talent, which is vital for our business. It allows us to reach and often exceed client expectations in operating their staff restaurants, and offer food quality and presentation comparable to that found in high street shops, bistros and restaurants.”
Sodexo manages staff restaurants and other on-site services for clients in business and industry, education and healthcare. It serves over 90,000 people daily in 200 locations across Ireland and spends over €18 million annually on local Irish food.
