Cobh Pirates RFC recently established a girls rugby team for girls aged 13 to 17 years, with training sessions taking place on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and Saturdays at 9.45am. Throughout the coming season the team will participate in tournaments and events, with a specific focus on the fast and exciting Sevens format of the game.
Some members of the team previously played rugby at mini level or through the schools outreach programme operated by the club, but for most rugby is a new sport.
Members of the team are currently pursuing their Gaisce Award, and the training counts towards the physical recreation element of the award. Some also coach with the club’s mini section.
The introduction of girls rugby builds on the success of the ladies rugby team at Cobh Pirates, which has been established for a number of years.
New members are welcome. For further information contact Rob Pasley on 083 3515124.
