CETB (a union of VEC and FÁS) in partnership with the Cork Library Service are delighted to announce the ‘ E-Learning at the Library Project’ is scheduled to commence in a number of locations throughout Cork city and county including Fermoy, Mitchelstown, Youghal, Midleton, Carrrigaline and Cobh. This learning programme has been developed by CETB for people with little or no IT skills as well as those with a higher skill level and will be delivered FREE OF CHARGE by trained facilitators.
How Does It Work?
Basic Computer Classes
E-Learning at the library is a wonderful opportunity for people to develop and improve their IT skills at a pace that suits them best. Each learner will be assigned an IT facilitator/trainer who will help them to get to grips with computer and Internet basics through the use of facilitated workshops/classes. The course facilitator will help each learner to become familiar with computers, send and receive emails, access information on the internet and commence developing their word-processing skills.
The practical workshops will be delivered in your local library over a 16 week period for 2 hours each week and are aimed at those with very little or no IT skills. In small groups, in your local community, it has proved extremely popular with previous attendees. It brings training to the community – focusing on the complete beginner, based in your area with experienced, friendly IT training professionals available to assist you with any query you may have. “the only thing we ask you to bring is your enthusiasm” says Edel, one of the course facilitators. “This course is one of the most useful courses I have ever delivered. It sets participants on the IT road. It is community based so students are not at all inconvenienced. Attendees do not even require a computer as we use library facilities. Outside of class time, if students wish to practice, they can avail of these facilities again, provided they are members. I would encourage anyone to avail of this fantastic facility – on your own doorstep.
Pop in to the library or call me on 087 3940145 and I can answer any question you have.” Students who complete simple assignments successfully will receive a FETAC Minor Award Level 3 Certificate in Information Technology
