GAA_EmblemJunior Hurlers draw with Dromina
Cobh would have been looking for a tough last encounter before championship and that’s exactly what they got on a very warm Saturday evening last after the long trip to Dromina. With a couple of players returning from injury, this was a last chance to impress before the first round game versus Bride Rovers.

Adam McCarthy opened Cobh’s scoring with 2 pointed frees but a lapse at the back allowed Dromina in for an early goal. Walden Drake was forced off through injury and Jamie Moynihan showed well in at midfield. Cobh responded immediately with a Conor Farrell point but it was the home team which took the game to Cobh and took the chances that came their way from placed balls and from play. Cobh finished the half strongly with scores from Cian Spriggs, Darragh O’Keeffe and Darragh Kelleher to leave it at 1-6 to 0-8 to the hosts.

The second half proved a tight affair with both defences playing well. Allen Walley, Rory O’Connell and Seamus Ryan were particularly effective. Cobh finished the half strongly again with a well finished move to the Dromina net from O’Keeffe. With full time approaching Dromina were one point up but Spriggs took a fine point to earn a draw 1-12 apiece.

East Cork Junior Hurling Championship Round One Cobh v Bride Rovers on Tuesday July 1st in Lisgoold @ 7.30pm.

Minor Hurlers win well against Brian Dillions
Our first game back after the exam break was a rescheduled game V’s Brian Dillons on a balmy summer’s evening in Tank field. Not a happy hunting ground of late for our lads was to be changed tonight. Setting our stall out early on sticking 5 unanswered points on the board in the opening 10 minutes, and holding our hosts to two fruitless attacks our only worry was, we had as many wides as points in that opening exchange. but it was our first game in 6 weeks and as always our free running game gave our travelling supporters a sense of ” I’m glad I came” as not only were our lads superb in attack there was some selfless running/tracking back by our half forwards to help out the backs when required. we hit the break 1.08 to 0.04 and cruising. With only one wide in the remaining 20 mins of the half although we hit the woodwork 3 times, each counts as a miss but our wide tally improved wholesale. We really put the game out of reach in the next 10 mins in the 2nd half bouncing 2.13 to 0.05 ahead and only letting in 2 consolation goals late on to finish 2.17 to 2.05.

All played exceptional hurling and showed great determination as we traveled with the bare minimum, and fair play to Pádi Kearney for playing whilst sick and had some fantastic púc outs, our younger lads are really enjoying the space playing this grade offers and are making the most of it to be honest. It, really is onward and upward to the championship. Cobh Team: Pádi Kearney, Jeff McCarthy, Cillian Histon, Ciarán Leahy, Mark Hayes Capt, Keith Donnachie, Darragh Kelleher, Jordan Griffen, Shane Cullimore, William Ireland, Niall Spriggs and Adam O Donovan.
