sru16The Under 16’s brought home the clubs second cup of this season with an impressive win over fellow league contenders Carrigaline United.

This match got off to a nervous start with some scrappy play from both sides. Once nerves settled Springfield started to slowly gain the upper hand. Charlie Flemming came close to getting the opener with a great strike that went narrowly wide. The lads took the lead just around the half hour mark after a great build up of play.

Darren Murphy made another great run down the right flank beating his man with ease, he crossed the ball to an ever alert Adam Horgan who finished in style. The lads kept up the pressure at the beginning of the second half with Keenan O’Flynn hitting the post. Just after this near miss, Darren Murphy made the run of the game. After picking up the ball in midfield he showed some great skill to beat three men and get around the keeper.

However he was stopped by the last player and failed to see an open Adam Horgan. This spurred the lads on further in search for second goal. After a free kick was awarded to the Springfield side, Garan Murphy put a great ball deep into the Carrigaline defensive area. It was met by Charlie Flemming who made a great run and got the second goal for the Springfield side. The last few minutes were intense with Carrigaline pushing forward. However their closest attempt was stopped by the ever consistent Dave Coffey who continued his clean sheet streak of late. MOTM was awarded to Charlie Flemming. This was a fantastic overall team performance with all the lads working together to get the well deserved win!!Well done lads ye did the club and yourselves proud.
