camogie-crest400x4001U 16 Report Monday 28th April

Cobh U16 camogie played their second County league game away to Mallow on Monday 28thApril. This was another good game of Camogie with both teams well able to score. Cobh dominated possession from the start but the forwards took some time to settle hitting seven wides in the first ten minutes. Cobh were on top at midfield with Aoife O Connor and Aggie Douglas providing a lot of ball to their forwards.Cobh eventually took the lead with a good ground shot from Ashling Bardsley finding the back of the net. Mallow made some positional changes which brought them more into the game and scored the next 2 goals from breakaways with one coming from a free.

Cobh were still dominating in the possession stakes and goals from Shannid McGrath and Katelynn Quinlann put cobh back in the lead. At Half Time Cobh lead 3-2 V 2-3 but this score in no way reflected the amount of possession Cobh had in this Half.

The second half was more even and the lead changed hands on a few occasions. Mallow scored the first goal of the half to take the lead.Cobh came back with a terrific solo from Megan Foley which Megan finished in some style with a great shot from the 21. Mallow were getting most of their scores from free’s and this trend continued with high balls from free’s ending up in the Cobh net all too regularly. Mallow lead by 6-6 V 5 -6 with 7 minutes to go. Cobh’s points coming from Katelyn Quinlann free’s and Shannid McGrath from play.

Cobh were battling to stay in the game and along free from Aoife Sheehan was touched home excellently by Shannid McGrath. Shortly afterwards Jennifer McCarthy fought very well to win possession and finished her move with a hand passed goal to put Cobh back in the lead. Katelynn Quinlann stretched the lead to 4 points with an excellent free from 35 metres with 2 minutes to go.

However Cobh were been handicapped all day by giving away unnecessary free’s which Mallow were converting from all distances. This trend continued with Mallow being awarded one free 50metres out which was hit in high and again found its way to the Cobh net. This was followed by another free from 45 metres which with time up Mallow were happy to take their point to leave the scores level at 7 -7 each.

Cobh showed great character throughout this game, played some good camogie but will be disappointed not to have held on for a win.
