The Mayor of Cobh Cllr John Mulvihill welcomed the Members of the Association of Municipal Authorities of Ireland executive to Cobh last Saturday. The AMAI are the repetitive Body of all the Town Councils in the Country.
Cllr Mulvihill who is currently Vice President of the AMAI welcomed his colleagues to Cobh for their Executive Meeting. Cllr Mulvihill stated “Today we discussed important issues regarding the future form of Local Government in Ireland. There was a report on the group´s engagement with the European Council on the issues of sub subsidiarity and how this is reflected in the bill. There was also a report of the discussions regarding the appearance of the AMAI at the oireachtas Committee dealing with the Bill.
”It was also highlighted the fact that the new set up in the Municipal district Council will result in a large number of Councillors not being in a position to put their name forward for election due the balance between work commitments and the time needed to fulfil the position on the new Municipal Councils” added Mayor Mulvihill
The Mayor of Cobh also reflected on the executive member´s impression of the town. ”Many of them had not been to Cobh before and were amazed at its beauty and all the attractions in the town. Many of my colleagues stayed over and visited the different attractions the town had to offer. There was representatives from every county in the country and from my Point of view they left Cobh with the intention to go home and tell their family and friends about our hidden jewel in Cork Harbour”.
