The minis where out in force last weekend weekend – with Blitz home and away.
Our Youths had another good weekend. With the U18 beating Crosshaven 27 points to 3. U14 beat Fermoy 20 points to 10 while our U16 game was a walk over against Midleton.
This week: U 18 away to Sundayswell KO 12.00
Our J1s extended their unbeaten run with a 13-11 home win over Kilfeacle. Kevin Allen scored a try for the Pirates and Eoin Geary converted and Greg Higgins kicked two penalties.. Tom Doyle replied with a try for the Tipperary side and Gavin Heuston kicked two penalties. The weather provided another obstacle but the team pulled through right to the very end. Kevin Allen received Man of the Match for his great play throughout the match.
Our Ladies team who battled hard to come out with a draw in their first home game of the season against Thurles. Pirates were the first to score with a try in the corner from Suzanne Morgan who powered her way through to the try line from a penalty in the first ten minutes. Thurles scored all their tries in the first half – two breakaways on the wings and one from a penalty. But Cobh responded in the second half, retaining most of the possession, and controlling the game. A try from Libby Pearson, converted by Eilish Walsh brought it back to a three-point game. Unfortunately another try was disallowed, but the ladies persevered until the dying seconds of the game, where Thurles gave away two penalties under immense pressure, the second one kicked beautifully between the posts by Eilish Walsh. Final score 15-all. Woman of the match Tara O’Connor for her excellent support play and offensive runs!
Congratulations to the following coaches who completed the Munster Rugby Mini/Foundation Coaching Course last weekend at CSN. Mini: Chris Coady, Jason Clifford, Enda Murphy, John McCarthy, Tony Cahill and Paul Mulvihill.
