As a part of An Taisce’s National Spring Clean, Cobh Tidy Towns Committee in association with Cobh Town Council are organising a clean up of Great Island for Saturday 24th April. The Cobh Community Paintathon on Harbour Row has shown how a relatively small group of people working together can achieve great results in a very short time. Cobh Tidy Towns Committee is therefore urging Residents’ Associations, Sports clubs, businesses, community groups and individuals to come out and give the Great Island a thorough Spring Clean. Residents’ Associations and others who wish to participate in the clean up may contact the Town Council offices on 021 4811307 for a supply of bags and gloves to be delivered to each area. Cobh Town Council will collect the bags of rubbish from each area on Sunday 25th April. It should be noted that the Council will not remove domestic refuse or any large items such as furniture as part of this clean up. A Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) collection point will however be available at the Five Foot Way Car Park for some of the day.
A one hour Public Meeting will be held in the Great Island Community Centre on Tuesday 20th April at 7.30 pm to gather ideas and points of view and to formulate points of action to help in the preparation of a Great Island Enhancement Plan and a Cobh Tidy Towns Action Plan 2010 – 2015. Everyone is welcome to attend.
