Great Island 10 Mile Road Race

10 Mile Road Race – 11am

The Inaugural ‘Great Island 10 Mile Road Race’ is coming to the streets of Cobh on Sunday 18th April at 11am, in aid of The Irish Cancer Society, with special emphasis on Palliative Care.

This event is being organised by a group of local people who have lost either family or friends to Cancer. The run is open to everyone;  if you don’t feel you can run it then come out and walk it or alternatively come out and support the runners on the day and spur them on!!!!!!

Anyone interested in entering can;

1) Download an entry form from www.greatisland10.com

2) Contact Breda Nolan on  bredanol@yahoo.ie or ring Breda on 086 3004114

3) Pre-register on www.greatisland10.com  Taking this option you will need to come to The  Community Centre at 9am on the morning of the run where a specific area will be in place for you to pay and collect your race pack. The entry fee for the Road Race is ‘15 and a Sponsor Card can be requested from sonyaomurphy@gmail.com

All monies collected will be donated to The Irish Cancer Society and no personal profit will be derived from this venture!!!!

All runners must be at the start line by 10.40am.

Headquarters on the day will be The Great Island Community Centre.

Coral Leisure Centre Cobh, have kindly offered their Leisure Centre to anyone wishing to avail of a Shower, Swim & Steam after the event for ‘2.

5km Walk –  11.30am

For those who would prefer a shorter distance, a 5km Walk will take place on the same day at 11.30am (30mins after the main event) leaving from the Community Centre.  Enjoy a great morning out with family and friends helping to raise money for this worthy cause!

There is no entry fee for the walk but entrants would be expected to take a sponsor card.  Sponsor cards are available from Sonya Murphy on 021 4815125 / 087 7904895 or email sonyaomurphy@gmail.com

Walk Route The walk will leave the Community Centre at 11.30am and will go down the hill turning left up towards the Schools along the back road and down towards Cuskinny  turning left at the end of the hill and along the Tay Road to Cow Cross turning left up the hill past Supervalu and back to the Community Centre where refreshments will be served.

The Mc Crossan family will present a Perpetual Plate to the 10 mile race winners in both the Male and Female Masters Categories in memory of Tommy McCrossan and Paula Rasmussen (nee Mc Crossan), who both lost their lives to cancer.
