Well done to all the lads who took part in the u11 Hurling competition recently in Na Piarsiaghs of Cork GAA Club. The team lost out by two points in the final to Na Piarsaighs of Limerick having defeated Cashel King Cormac’s and Na Piarsaighs of Cork earlier in the day. All the lads performed admirably and their coaches, parents and supporters were very proud of them. Everyone had a great day out, with the Na Piarsaigh club
providing lunch for all the visiting teams and their entourage. Many thanks to all who travelled up on the day to support the boys. (see attached Pics)

u14 Hurling Championship Victory – Cobh 2-17 ; Mayfield 2-11

Those who came to watch our U14 hurlers in the opening round of the U14 hurling championship were treated to an  exciting game  and some moments of hurling magic. Throughout the game both sides had periods of dominance during  which they looked like they could pull away to a victory, but overall Cobh mostly looked the  more likely to win. Early exchanges were tight and by halftime Cobh held a slender 0-5 to 0-2 lead. Mayfield had a better second half and gained a slim 1 point  lead as the final whistle approached.  Adam O´Donovan levelled the match with a point to bring scores to Cobh 0-10 to  Mayfield 1-7. Cobh had to defend for the last few minutes as Mayfield pushed for the late winner  but some cool heads in the Cobh defence prevailed.

The first period of extra time was to prove decisive and  Cobh played their best 10 minutes of hurling scored 1-5 to  Mayfield 0-1 to establish a 7 point lead. During this  period Cobh put together some fantastic passing movements which quite often lead to frees in dangerous positions, and Cobh finally raised a green flag when substitute Jamie Hamilton hit the net following a great pass from Adam O´Donovan. Highlight of this period was an inspiring long distance point by half back Conor Hogan, who was at  that time on strict defensive duties marking one of Mayfield´s taller and stronger players. The second period of extra time saw Mayfield start very  well and score 1-3, but on almost every occasion Cobh responded with a similar score, to finish with  6 point victory. The final whistle brought some welcome relief for  a Cobh team who had given every effort.  Scorers for  Cobh were Niall Spriggs 0-10, Adam O´Donovan 1-3, Jamie Hamilton1-0, and single  points from Keith  Donachie, Conor Hogan, Ciaran Leahy  and Dylan Higgins. Best performance throughout the game were mainly in the back six where all six managed to contain a physically strong Mayfield, particularly during those last  few minutes of normal time.
