Primary School GAA

Cobh’s St Joseph’s NS and Rushbrook’s Norwood NS played one another in a very exciting challenge game last Wednesday where Norwood prepared for their Sciath na Scoil  final against Conna NS this coming week. From the start the game was played at blistering pace where every player had an opportunity to give it everything for their relative school.Through out the game the scores were sea sawing back and forth .Four quarters were played and St Josephs played out that little bit more in the last quarter but the game as a whole was very successful and rewarding. It looks like the schools may play this fixture annually and could become a very interesting local derby in the future .All these players know each other very well and when they are not playing against each other in school games they are playing with each other as comrades for Cobh GAA on any other given day on the U11, U12 and U13 teams .Well done to all players, teachers and to the parents who turned up for a very exciting game. Good Luck to Norwood in their final next week.

U14 Hurling League : Cobh 9-16 : Youghal 1-5

Our U14 hurling team had a comprehensive win against Youghal on Thursday night in Páirc Uí Chonaill. We started very well, and within two minutes Jamie Hamilton had raised a green flag for Cobh. On this night 9 of our players were to score what  was particularly satisfying was the impact that our U13 panel made on a night when we had only 15 players, due to the involvement of several of our normal panel in other local commitments. Best performance on the night was from Jamie Hamilton, who was always a threat, and Jamie went on to score 1-2, all from play. George Keating also impressed at corner back with several fine clearances,  and both Robbie van Dam and Louis Kahn put in strong performances whilst marking  two of Youghal’s better players. Other notable performances came from our half back line ( Jeffrey McCarthy, Odhran Kidney-Power and Aaron Dolan) who all defended very well, AND also all managed to score that elusive halfback’s point. We also saw tireless performance at midfield from Adam O’Donovan (0-1) and Ciaran Leahy (0-2) whilst up front the scoring was lead by U14’s Niall Spriggs 4-6, and Neil Harte 3-3, and Ryan Hickey also raised a green flag.

Cobh Representation on Imokilly U14 Panels

Our congratulations to both Pádí Kearney and Sean Hilliard who represented Cobh on Imokilly Football Panels in recent weeks. Pádí played for Imokilly in a day long inter divisional blitz played  in Whitechurch,  whilst more recently, Sean played for Imokilly (and scored 1-1) in a match against Carberry in Enniskean. We also expect to be able to report on club representation on Imokilly U14 Hurling teams shortly. Well done lads…..
