Fr O’Neill’s 1-3 : Cobh 1-6
Following a challenging early set of four games, during which we played all three unbeaten teams in our league, our U14 footballers made the trip to Ballymacoda to play Fr O’Neills, who also had had a single win and three losses from their 4 games to date. Following a few well attended training sessions we were, for the first time this year, able to start with 15 players born in 1998, and with 5 quality subs we seemed very well equipped for the task ahead. Early exchanges saw us under pressure but we held firm and as we got more of the possession we began to score some good points from play. A fine goal by Morgan Doody saw us open a significant lead, but it was short lived as Fr O’Neill’s responded with a goal of their own. Half time score was Cobh 1-4 to Fr O’Neill’s 1-1. It was a day when overall both defences had the upper hand, particularly in the second half, as both sides added only 2 points each to leave the final score at Cobh 1-6 to Fr O’Neill’s 1-3. Jeffrey McCarthy was Cobh’s outstanding player and scorers for Cobh were Morgan Doody 1-0, Sean Hilliard 0-3, Neil Harte 0-2 and Max Kahn 0-1. Next up is an important home game against Inniscarra on Thursday 10th May, with our final league match against Macroom on scheduled for Thursday June 14th , this gives us the opportunity to build a little momentum for the U14 football championship which is set to commence on Thursday June 21st with a fixture against Glenville.
