Cobh Hurling Scor Team

Cobh had great success at the recent East Cork Scór final held in Watergrasshill. Representing Cobh GAA the instrumental music group, Seán Damery, Díarmuid Kearney, Orla Damery and Sinead Meaney won 2nd place.  Jamie McDonnell won 2nd place in the Solo Music competition.  Aisling Walsh won 1st place in the Solo Dancing competition.  She has since competed in the Cork Semi-finals and has qualified for the Cork Finals on March 25th.

As well as these prize winners there was a big entry from Cobh in the first round of the Scór.

Cobh Junior Hurlers

Cobh Junior hurlers experiment with young side and unfortunate not to get a result in the opening game of the Imokilly/Avondhu Junior A Hurling League. Cobh made the arduous trip to Newtowshandrum in search of victory in this years opening round in the league campaign but were unlucky to end up on the wrong side of a 1-17 to 2-8 defeat. Both teams took awhile to settle into a rhythm on their first competitive outing of the new season. Points were exchanged from both sides in the opening period and both sides were closely matched until Darren Tallon made the most of a goal line scramble to strike the ball home in side the first half. Both teams defended well but the Newtown men slowly edged back into the game and Cobh were limited to scoring from dead ball situations before the referee blew for half time.

The experienced Newtown men then started to break away but the young Cobh side showed great determination to stay competitive right until the very end. All in all it was a fair, though test from second string of the successful north Cork club. Players to play well for Cobh included Steven Kearney who supplied great ball into the forwards and made life very difficult for the Newtown men. Young Darragh O’ Keefee and the experienced Liam Greaney were very competitive in the half back line and Martin O’ Connor, who also chipped in with a goal, played very well even though he found himself on the offensive side of the half way line rather than his more normal defensive position. Cobh play Shanballymore in Shanballymore in the second round of the league campaign next Sunday the 18th at three O’ Clock. All Support greatly appreciated.
