Cobh 3-1, Kilmurray 10-11
Cobh rarely got out of first gear in this league game against last years league winners who had great intent following our victory against them a year ago in the football championship. From the start Kilmurray launched attack after attack, and with the benefit of a strong wind had built up a commanding 7-6 to 1-0 half time lead. The second half was a more even affair with Kilmurray adding a further 3-5 to Cobh’s 2-1. Overall great credit to our lads for lifting their game in the second half.
Sciath na Scoil
Gaelscoil Uí Eígeartaigh had a great win in a recent indoor hurling competition that was held in Carrigtwohill. The boys topped their group with a great win over Gaelscoil Youghal and a 3-3 draw win with Watergrasshill. They defeated Walterstown in a hard fought semi-final before going on to play Killagh in the final. The final proved to be a thriller, it finished 2-2 in normal time so the game went on to extra time where the golden goal rule applied. After 5 minutes of high drama and suspense Gaelscoil úi Eigeartaigh finally made the breakthrough when Tomás ó Muirthile rifled the ball to the net, to set off great scenes of celebration. The Gaelscoil had some great performances on the day but it was really a fantastic team effort with all boys on the panel making a big contribution to this great victory. The boys will now be playing in the county finals in the middle of March.
Cobh Junior Hurlers
The Cobh hurlers got their season underway last Wednesday with a valiant defeat to a strong Erins Own Side. Cobh scored 21 points in total which was a great effort from such a young side. Cobh Open their league campaign away to Newtonshandrum next sunday the 11th in Newtownshandrum.
Cobh Junior Footballers
Cobh’s winning streak in the junior A football league came to a finish on Friday night after a 3-6 to 0-4 defeat to Youghal. Youghal were much better on the night and the Cobh men will be eager to get their league campaign back on track after a disappointing day at the office. Football training resumes Tuesday night at 7.30pm
