Cobh Minor Footballers got their league campaign off to a great start by beating Erin’s Own by a scoreline of 2-15 to 0-3 points on Friday the 3rd of February. This Cobh team which contains many of last years championship winning team outclassed the Erin’s Own men on a chilly night in the top Field. Players that played well for Cobh Included defenders Tony O Donovan and Keiran Histon who dealt with Erin’s Owns attacks confidently and professionally, Aidan O’ Rourke provided a great link between defense and attackers and caused the Erin’s Own men great problems with his energetic performance. The excellent Shane Hallahan was a menace to the Erin’s Own defenders and created and scored the majority of the Cobh scores. All in all it was a great team performance by the lads who hope to build on the success of last years championship winning team.
Cobh u14 Footballers
Strength in depth proved a significant difference in U14 football league.
In our first outing of the season our U14 team proved too strong for a spirited Ballinhassig team. For the first half we played against the wind, and the wind and damp conditions took their toll on players stamina. Highlights of the first half was a fine display at full back by Gearoid Lynch, and at full forward by Barry Chandler who bagged two goals. Up front Simon Doyle, George Keating and Morgan Doody created a lot of trouble for the Ballinhassig defence. Half-time saw Cobh with a narrow 2-2 to 1-3 lead. The introduction of 5 fresh players in the second half saw Cobh dominate, scoring 11 points, whilst Ballinhassig managed a single goal and some excellent goalkeeping by the their keeper stopped several good goal efforts by Cobh.
Final score Cobh 2-13, Ballinhassig 2-3.
