Feile Na Peil in Cobh

With 181 clubs taking part and many of them travelling in from around the country and from foreign shores, it promises to be a memorable spectacle of juvenile Gaelic football. Cobh G.A.A. has been selected both as a host club and as a venue for the prestigious weekend of competitions. It is also a fantastic opportunity for the U14 juveniles of Cobh to be involved in such a high profile event.
The Cobh GAA club is delighted to be hosting a team from the UK, a county team representing the GAA clubs in Hertfordshire and some neighbouring counties. As a county side Hertfordshire are regular participants in this competition, and they reached the semi finals when the event was held in Derry last  year. The effort of 12 local families who will provide a “home away from home” for the 24 visiting Hertfordshire players, has made this weekend possible. Without these families participation this weekend would not have happened. The GAA club has also organised several other activities for the visitors including a visit to the Heritage Centre, where many of the visitors will be reminded of their own Irish roots, and a visit to the Naval base where they will get a unique behind the scenes view of another local tradition.

The Cobh GAA club will host 5 games and a skills competition at Páirc Uí Chonaill. The games will start at 2pm on Thursday  when Cobh play Hertfordshire. On Thursday evening all 181 teams go to Cork for  the festival parade. On Friday the main set of games in Cobh commences at 10 am, and Cobh, Hertfordshire, Bride Rovers (Cork) and Wolfe Tones (Clare county champions) will compete against each other for one semi-final spot. The team which progresses should be known by 2pm. At this stage the competition moves from Cobh with semi-finals being held at Mourneabbey, near Mallow, and the finals being held on Saturday morning.

The Cobh U14 Football Feile panel, are drawn from across our Great Island, and are already having a promising season having so far having reached the local championship semi final following a last minute goal to secure a well deserved victory against Cloyne last week. They are a group of lads who are well used to playing together in many sports and the Cobh mentors plan to make use of some of this positive “Island mentality”  to ensure our team works hard for each other, and also to ensure we provide a memorable visit for our hosted team from Hertfordshire, and the other visiting teams from Bride Rovers and Shannon  Come out and support the Cobh U14 players and welcome the visiting teams.
