Cathal’s World Class Save Seals Cork Win
All Ireland U16 Inter League Final
Cork SL U14s 2 Waterford SL U14s 1
Cathal O’Hanlon was the toast of the Springfield Ramblers Club on Saturday May 21st as he was part of the Cork Schoolboys League Under 14s success in the All Ireland Final against Waterford SL. Cathal produced a world class save in the dying minutes to deny the Waterford team a lead goal and the Cork side broke away to get the winning goal after the save. Cathal joins Jason Abbott and Adam Thompson as All Ireland winning Cork representatives of the Springfield Ramblers club this season.
See match report below.
James Nagle (Castleview) scored an early goal against the wind and Cork held a deserved 1-0 lead at the interval. Waterford came more into the game in the second half and equalised with 15 minutes to go. However Cork reacted well and picked up their game again. With two minutes to go Cathal O’Hanlon (Springfield Ramblers) produced a world class save to deny a great Waterford header from a corner. Cork cleared the resultant corner and attacked strongly down the left. The ball broke to Craig Donnellan (Corinthian Boys) who slotted home a great shot from inside the box to give Cork a deserved win.
Congrats to all the panel of players and to the management team of Jason Lynch, Stephen Neiland, Bob Grantham and Ger Lynch on a brilliant win.
Abbo & Thommo All Ireland Champs Again
All Ireland U16 Inter League Final
Cork SL 2 Waterford SL 1
Jason Abbott & Adam Thompson did the Springfield Ramblers Club proud by representing Cork Schoolboys League in their Under 16 team’s All Ireland success on Friday night last. The Cork lads beat their Waterford counterparts in the Final. This was Jason & Adam’s second All Ireland medal in as many weeks having both been a part of Cobh Ramblers stunning U16 Barry Cup victory two weeks ago. There was an added honour for Jason as he was captain of the Cork team. Jason and Adam join Cathal O’Hanlon as All Ireland winning Cork representatives of the Springfield Ramblers club this season.
See match report below.
Cork U16s make it three All Ireland titles for Cork this season with a gutsy win over Waterford in Littleton last night. John Kavanagh (Ringmahon Rangers) opened the scoring for Cork when he finished from close range following a great move down the right. Cork had to reorganise shortly afterwards following a head injury to influential midfielder Brian Lenihan. Cork extended their lead with 20 minutes to go through Jason Forde (Ringmahon Rangers). To their credit Waterford hit back immediately to make it 2-1 and put the game back into the melting pot. At this stage the Cork injury jinx hit again when keeper Dave Minihane (Greenwood) was carried off with a leg injury. However this Cork team again proved what a great bunch they are by holding out to the end for a great win.
This particular squad have won All Irelands at U12, U14 and now at U16 levels. Many players on the squad last night have played right through and hold three All Ireland medals.
Congratulations must also go to managers Leonard O’Driscoll and Mick Durkin. Last nights win completed a hat trick of U16 All Ireland titles with three different squads for the lads which is a fantastic achievement.
Soccer Coaches Wanted Urgently.
