Positive news from Cobh Tidy Towns

Cobh Tidy Towns committee is pleased to report some very positive news this week.

Local groundskeeper Edward O’Riordan has agreed to maintain the large grass area next to Keating’s Londis for the remainder of this year. This area wasn’t cut at all this year following the demise of McInerney Homes. Edward has already cut what could only be described as a meadow and within the next few weeks this area will look much more respectable again.

Cobh Tidy Towns volunteers have also started work on the fire damaged Dave’s Pound shop. David Histon boarded up all the windows and Jim O’Rourke and Pat Ryan commenced painting on Saturday morning until the rain came. The Cobh Tidy Towns committee have paid for the hire of the hoist and the Hardware House has donated the paint needed. This is outside the normal remit of Cobh Tidy Towns, but the alternative is to have this blot on the streetscape of Cobh for years while the derelict sites process proceeds.

Also this Saturday the Tidy Towns Committee put in place 42 flower boxes between Rushbrooke and Carrigaloe, the Town Council put in place the pole Baskets and many of the Promenade Flower beds were also planted. The Nun’s wood was again cleaned after the mindless dumping there.

Keep an eye on Ticknock Hill, the Cow Cross, Garvey’s Super Valu, the Deep Water Quay, Centra, AIB and the Lusitania Peace Memorial in the coming days for further improvements.

If anyone knows the identity of “Rope” could they please inform Cobh Gardai. While civic minded people are cleaning and beautifying the town this “Dope” is currently defacing large areas of the town with his spray painting.
