FRI APR 22

U11 Cup QF

Springfield Ramblers 1 Strand United 3

The Springfield Ramblers Under 11s great cup run came to an end on Friday night against very good Strand United team. Having beaten better teams along the way this match was just a step too far for the Springfield lads. The home side started slowly and were two goals down early in the first half.  The Springfield Ramblers lads began to get a grip on the game and Raymond Roche scored a goal to reduce the deficit.

The second half was dominated by Springfield Ramblers but they just couldn’t find the equaliser. With time running out Strand broke away to get the deciding goal. Great credit is due to all the players for their 100% effort in this great cup run but their luck just ran out. With five league games left there is still a lot to play for this season for this great squad of players. The management would like to thank everybody who turned out to support the team

Springfield Ramblers 0 Douglas Hall 2

U16 Premier

Carrigaline United 0 Cobh Ramblers 2

Cobh Ramblers continued their challenge for Premier League honours with this away victory at Ballea Park. Though they started slowly the Cobh side got the upper hand in the game as the first half progressed. The midfield duo of Jason Abbott and Tony O’Donovan controlled the play and supported the attacks on the flanks from Dave Curran and Jason Dunphy. Dunphy in particular was a constant threat to the home side with his probing runs and intelligent passing on the right wing. Ramblers went in front when a brilliantly struck free kick from Dave Curran hit the foot of the post but Jason Abbott who had followed up struck a great shot from a narrow angle across the goalkeeper and in off the far post for the lead goal.

The second half continued in the same vein as the Cobh side continued to dominate the possession but the Carrigaline defence proved strong in the face of the constant attacks from the hard running Dave Cahill and Daniel Santry up front. Midway through the half a mix-up in midfield saw the home side break away but the striker failed to convert the chance when one on one with Shane Hallahan in goal. Ramblers continued to press with Dave Curran in fine form on the left wing proving a handful for the home defence. The game was settled in the dying minutes when from a corner on the right Paul Ronan reacted faster than anyone else to stoop and power a header in at the near post.
