TUES APR 5

U16 Cup

Riverstown 0 Cobh Ramblers 2

This was a good away win for Cobh Ramblers in this Under 16 Cup tie against a very strong Riverstown side. The home side are currently top of the Under 16 First Division and they proved tough opposition for the Premier League side. Ramblers got off to the best start and scored after a few minutes when Dave Cahill received the ball wide on the left. Showing great skill he cut inside on his right foot and sent a low drive to the corner of the net for the lead goal. The damp evening and a poor pitch did not encourage good football and the contest was a dour affair throughout. The tie was sealed late in the second half when Daniel Santry finished high into the net after a corner kick.

SUN APR 10

U16 National Cup Quarter Final

Cobh Ramblers 3 Ballyheane (Mayo) 1

This was another fantastic result for Cobh Ramblers in this National Cup Quarter Final tie at the VEC Grounds. On a beautiful sunny day and on a perfectly prepared playing surface the boys overcame a very tough opposing side in Ballyheane from Mayo. The tie opened at a frantic pace and was very tense in the opening exchanges with both teams nervous on the big occasion. The home side settled first and went in front in the tie after fifteen minutes when after a corner on the right there was a scramble in the Ballyheane goalmouth and the ball was forced home by Daniel Santry. Cobh Ramblers continued to have the better of the game in the first half and scored again when Santry side footed home after another skirmish in the away goalmouth.

The second half was a more evenly contested affair as Ballyheane tried to cut the deficit. They launched a number of attacks on the Cobh goal but their efforts were thwarted continually by superb defensive work from the back four of Adam Thompson, Paul Ronan, Brendán Frahill and Marc Wyatt. Anything that breached this line was capably handled by Shane Hallahan in the Cobh goal. As Ballyheane chased the game Ramblers scored again when Dave Cahill finished to the net after a corner on the right. In the dying minutes the home side conceded a penalty which was brilliantly converted by Ballyheane to close the deficit. The home side closed out the game on the offensive to kill off the tie. The team have now qualified for a semi-final tie away to Evergreen of Kilkenny or St Francis of Dublin.

The club would also like to thank the Ballyheane team for the sporting way in which they approached the game and wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.

U 11 Division 6

Blarney United A 0 Springfield Ramblers A 1

This was a great away win for Springfield Ramblers. A very evenly matched game was decided with 5 minutes to go when a shot from outside the box from Dominic Roche was poked home by Dean Moran. Special mention must go to our goalkeeper Michael McCall who pulled off a fingertip save in the last minute to ensure the three points. Well done to all the boys.
