Breaking The Silence has a number of really exciting ‘fitness’ fundraisers happening in the coming months! The first of these is the Breaking The Silence Walk For Life on 1st May and this is a 16K walk on the beautiful journey along the Old Kenmare Road from Kenmare to Torc Waterfall, Killarney.  You don’t need to be a pro to take part as this is a fun walk! Liz Cronin, local Fitness Coach (owner of Fit Club Cobh) has very kindly offered training support for walkers and Mahers Outdoor Sports (Parnell Place, Cork City) are giving walkers a very generous 10% off clothing and footwear for the event, just ask for Colette and present your sponsorship card to avail of this offer.  Walk For Life participants are asked to raise €100 to take part in the event and to receive further details and a sponsorship pack please contact our fundraising team on email fundraisingbts@gmail.com A great opportunity to get fit and have fun on 1st May for a great cause!

The second fundraiser is taking place in the Gobi Desert, China.  On 26th June Cobh Athlete Rob O’Brien will commence a six day Ultra Marathon to raise funds on behalf of Breaking The Silence.  Rob is no stranger to such extreme challenges as he has previously completed a number of marathons across the globe from Dingle to Dublin to New York to Chile! Rob is already undergoing intense mental and physical preparation for this incredible event and to keep up to date with Rob’s training progress and the marathon itself please check our facebook page ‘Breaking The Silence Cobh’.  Breaking The Silence is extremely grateful to Rob for this magnificent gesture and Rob deeply believes in the work the group is doing and is very passionate in raising Suicide Awareness.  Should you wish to donate to Rob’s campaign these are the banking details:

In relation to training, the core part of what Breaking The Silence do, two additional courses were delivered this week.  An ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) Programme took place in Cobh which was kindly sponsored by Eli Lilly (Kinsale) and a Safe Talk Workshop took place also.

Breaking The Silence is a Cobh based voluntary that helps to create a Suicide Safer Community by connecting the person at risk of Suicide with life preserving resources.  The group aims to listen, educate, support and train the community on Suicide.
