“A hidden, but significant part, of the Fine Gael fiscal plans announced will lead to increases in bus and train fares for Cork people,” according to Cork East Fianna Fáil candidate, Cllr. Kevin O’Keeffe.
“I believe that people who use public transport are entitled to see the full picture from Fine Gael in terms of the increases in fares.”
“In the plans outlined by Enda Kenny and Michael Noonan they said that they would cut “at least” €100 million to transport operators. What they do not spell out is that this will have direct implications for the paying public who use public transport.”
“Fine Gael has attempted to hide this stealth charge within their plans. For too long they have been quick to criticise but when called upon to produce a real and credible plan, the answer they supply is higher bus and train fares,” Cllr. O’Keeffe concluded.
