Cobh Hockey Results 5th-6th Feb

A very disappointing weekend all round for the Club with both sides losing out to sides from Tipperary. Div 6 travelled with a depleted team to take on joint leaders Cashel/New Inn in atrocious weather conditions.  Cobh’s defence put in trojan work in keeping the score to 2-0 at half time. Their case was not helped when, due to an injury, they were down to ten players for most of the second half.   Goalie Jessica Stack in particular was on fire pulling off great save after save to earn her the Player of the Game from her team mates. Despite the final 5-0 scoreline all of Cobh put in 110% in this very tough enounter.

Sunday saw Div 4 take on Tipperary Town in a top of the table clash. A win was essential for both sides but it was Tipp who came out on top with a 3-1 scoreline. After a 3 week lay off  Cobh found it hard to get going and it was the visitors who scored first after about 15mins.  Cobh came back strong but Tipp managed to clear what seemed to be certain goals from the line. Just before half time Tipp made it 2-0 from a short corner. The second half saw Cobh come back into it and they pulled one back after about 10mins when Fiona O’Regan slotted home.  Piling on the pressure Cobh tried to find an equaliser but it was Tipp who took the initiative when again from a short corner they made it 3-1. This now puts Tipp 1 point ahead of Cobh at the top of the table.
