Douglas Hall A 1 Springfield Ramblers 5

After months of inaction due to the bad weather this turned out to be a great win for the Cobh side. We started well and went ahead after some great wing play and a good pass from Karl Preston for Danny Roche to shoot past the keeper into the corner. The second goal came after a great pass from Adam Rasmussen to Glen Kavanagh who battled hard to slot home. With the Cobh side in complete control Luke Doyle was unlucky not to score only to be foiled by a great save from the Douglas keeper. The third came from another great cross   into the box which was bundled into the net for an own goal.
Springfield Ramblers kept playing great football and were rewarded with a fourth when provider Adam Rasmussen turned scorer when he slotted home direct from a free. Douglas scored a late goal despite a great save from Eoin Downing but the defence failed to clear. The final goal came from a great run and passing movement on the wing between Adam Rasmussen and Conor McLoughlin who then slotted home into the corner. In the centre of midfield Mark Hannon played a great holding role while passing the ball well. Danny Roche and Adam Rasmussen created havoc on the wings and Douglas could not get to grips with their passing and speed. The defence were excellent with Conor McLoughlin, Ricky Parker, Dylan Kinehan and Aidan O’Rourke holding firm throughout the whole match. A great result in a great game of football from a very committed Cobh side.

U16 Premier League

Cobh Ramblers 3 Ballincollig 1

This was a very good performance from Springfield Ramblers after a long lay-off due to the bad weather. The home side dominated proceedings throughout the first half and were rewarded with two goals for their efforts. The first of these came when Man of the Match Dave Cahill was taken down in the penalty area and the spot kick was expertly despatched into the top corner by Daniel Santry. The second goal came about when a good midfield move finished with Jason Abbott slotting a brilliant through pass to Jason Dunphy who side-footed the ball into the corner for a great finish. Springfield Ramblers continued to dominate and create chances but were thwarted repeatedly by the Ballincollig goalkeeper.

The second half continued in the same vein with the home side continuing to play good football and creating chances. Ballincollig to their credit played some good football too and were tough in the tackle in midfield and defence. The third goal came from a great move down the right wing. Adam Thompson played a great one-two with Jason Dunphy who passed to Jason Abbott and Abbo slipped another great pass to Daniel Santry who finished for his second goal of the game and to complete a good victory for the Springfield Ramblers lads.

The team and the club extends its congratulations to Adam Thompson and Jason Abbott who played on the Cork Under 16 side in their victory over North Tipperary in the Inter League tie on January 16th. Special congratulations to Jason who skippered the Cork side on the day.
