Pirates J2s Pipped At Post By Cork Con

Published

on

Pirates Junior 2s were pipped at the post by Cork Constitution in the league, with Con scoring in the dying seconds to secure a minimal score advantage. Pirates were on top through out the encounter but Con came into the game in the latter stages, and with the pressure gaining them ground they crossed the line to gain the win in the last play of the game.

Meanwhile the Junior 1s entertained Richmond in the league. With a point sepeperating the top 3 teams and Richmond in the leading group Cobh had it all to do from the start. A sluggish start saw Richmond put 12 points on the board in as many minutes before Cobh settled and began to play. The home side enjoyed territorial advantage for the majority of the remaining period in the first half, and played with conviction.

Richmond were clearly targeting the bonus point victory and played accordingly, though Cobh never gave up. In particular the Cobh scrum had a good day out, with Mark Murphy and John Barry Murphy attacking the gain line at every oppurtunity. The final score of 29-14 did not tell the tale of Cobh efforts, with Josie Hoyne and Kevin Allens work rate through out the game exceptional.

This Richmond team have had easier days at the office, through their admittance, and will no doubt progress well through out the league.

Pirates are yet again running their popular 6 nations draw, with tickets, accomodation and travel to all of the 6 nations games as the prizes. A single ticket for €15, or a package ticket for all the draws for €50, are available from all committee members.
