Parts of Cobh water supply need urgent attention and repair says Cork East Fine Gael TD, David Stanton following findings that the quantity of lead in the water supply in some areas have been found to be above EU safety levels.
‘Some residents of Cobh no longer have access to safe drinking water in their homes. I understand that a stand pipe has been erected to enable people to obtain clean drinking water while they are waiting for the necessary repairs to be carried out.I have been in contact with Cork County Council as I believe they are working on a proposal to rectify the situation. I believe that any works to be carried out may require grant aid from the Minister for the Environment. I have offered my support to Cork County Council in their efforts to secure funding. I will also be happy to follow up the matter with the Minister once a proposal has been finalised.
‘I sincerely hope that full water quality will be restored to all these Cobh houses as soon as possible’ concluded Deputy Stanton.
