5k Runners At The Start Line

5km Sponsored Walk/Run: The annual Club 5km run/walk took place on Friday and Saturday last with over two hundred people taking part. This was a marvellous turnout and we now need everyone to get their sponsorship money back in to the club so that it can be distributed to our two nominated causes Cobh Community Hospital & Marymount Hospice. Thanks to everyone who supported the participants and to all who have gone out to get the sponsorship.

U12HL: Castlelyons 3-05 Cobh 2-04. Due to a combination of injuries and holidays we travelled with a panel of only 17, and as Castlelyons were unbeaten so far in the league this was going to be a tough assignment. Castlelyons had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and had a 4-point lead at half time (Castlelyons 2-2, Cobh 1-1). Our first half scores were top drawer, Ryan Hickey hitting the top corner of the net with a fantastic strike, and Neil Harte also raising a white flag. For the second half the wind was not as much of a factor, and during the third quarter Castlelyons managed to extend their lead to six points. Some positional switches worked well as David Coffey (to fullback), Adam O’Donovan (to Midfield), David Ogbebor (to centre forward) and Neil Harte (to midfield) all caused problems for Castlelyons.  With Goalkeeper Christian Field and fullback David Coffey both providing long clearances our forwards came to life. David Ogbebor (1-0), Adam O’Donovan (0-1), Ciarán Leahy (0-1), and Dylan Higgins (0-1) all managed to score in the last quarter. It could have been more scores but for an outstanding display of net minding by the Castlelyons goalkeeper.  In addition to the players named above Pádí Kearney gave a great display at centre back. Whilst the result was a bit disappointing the overall performance and effort was not. Attention now turns to our U12 hurling championship quarterfinal next Monday night v Watergrasshill on the Glenville pitch at 7pm.  The championships semi-finals and final are already fixed for the last two Mondays in August so any league playoffs are not expected to happen until September. The Cobh hosted Johnny Leahy Blitz is also now set for Saturday 21st August. Training continues on the top pitch on Fridays at 3:15 and Mondays at 7:00 unless there are matches. Numbers training over the past few weeks have been very low. As we reach the final stages of our season it is important that we have as many players as possible training on each occasion.
