The Annual 7 Aside Soccer Blitz was held on July 3rd at Old Church Park. After a hectic time on the morning of the event 9 teams were present at the time of the first kickoff at 12 o’clock.
With only 9 teams taking part one of the groups as reduced to just 4 teams.
The groups were as follows;
GROUP 1 | GROUP 2 |
Paul Fortune | Fanatic Sports |
The Full Mounty | Rat Island F.C. |
Ryans | Banuch |
Ken Gill | Mauretania |
Kinsey |
The referees were Frank O’Neill and Pat Walsh and all the games throughout the day were officiated with quiet calm and assurance.
Group 1 turned out to be a fight between Ryans and Kinsey for first and second place. Ryans having beaten Kinsey eventually took first.
Group 2 was a more close fought affair with 3 teams in the running. The outcome of the first 2 places was not settled until the last game of the group when Rat Island F.C. beat Banuch by 1 goal to nil. This result meant that Rat Island F.C. were group winners with Fanatic Sports second and Banuch taking third place and being eliminated.
The semi-finals pitted Kinsey against Rat Island F.C. and Ryans against Fanatic Sports. Kinsey easily beat Rat Island by 3 – 0 but Ryans and Fanatic Sports went to a penalty shootout. Fanatic Sports won the shootout 4 – 3 to take their place in the Final.
In the final, Fanatic Sports could not hand Kinsey and Pat Byrne scored 2 goals to win and become this year’s winners.
We would like to thank everyone that took part in this year’s event and hope to see everyone again next year.
The presentations to the winning team were carried out at Jack Doyle’s Bar on the night where everyone had a few well deserved drinks

Cobh Wanderers News
The Wanderers’ Senior team will be managed by Peter Rowe next season. Peter will be assisted by Dara Burke. After narrowly missing out on promotion last season the management and the team are looking forward to doing well this year and gain the promotion that this group deserves. Pre-season training for the seniors begins on Tuesday 13th July and will held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7.00PM.
The Junior team will again be managed by Dave Ryan who will be assisted by Stewart Byrnes. Having achieved promotion to the Premier Division last season the panel has been strengthened by the addition of a number of players and all concerned are looking forward to competing at the higher division in the coming season. On last year’s form this team should not be out of place in this division and hopefully will be competing for honours come the end of the season. Junior training began on Tuesday 6th July and will be on every Tuesday and Thursday at 7.00PM.
In the coming season we will be entering an Under 17 team in the Under 17 League. The team will be managed by Damien Rowe and Dwayne Breen. This will be our first year with an Under 17 team and we wish the management and the team all the best for the season. Under 17 training will begin on Wednesday 14th at 7.00PM.
Coaches, Players and New Members
At Cobh Wanderers A.F.C. we are always looking for new members to join the club and if anyone is interested they should contact a committee member in the first instance.
Anyone that is interested in playing for one of our teams for the coming season is more than welcome and should contact the club or team managers.
Anyone that would be interested in joining the club in a coaching capacity should contact any committee member. We have three teams and will be only too happy to welcome anyone into the club with expertise and time to give to our members.
