On what was one of the most beautiful days so far this year, the Irish Coast Guard’s Search & Rescue demonstrations returned to Cobh to entertain the large crowds gathered along the water front. Involved in this years display were the RNLI, the Naval Service, the Search & Rescue Dog Association, the HSE, An Garda Siochana, the Port of Cork, the Civil Defence, the Red Cross, the Order of Malta and Cork Fire Service, and local authorities. The tremendous weather conditions made it an idea afternoon for all involved as spectators were treated to fine displays of what Search & Rescure is all about and the influx of people into the town was welcomed by local business owners. The purpose of the exercise was to raise public awareness of safety on the water; both at sea and on inland waterways. The demonstration included a `fly-past´ by the Coastguard helicopter and the Air Corps aircraft.
