The Springfield Ramblers Schoolboys Football Club extends its congratulations to the U15 Premier League team who repeated their success of the previous season with a great victory in the Cork Cup tournament on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th of May last. The team competed against five other teams from Cork and from Dublin in a round robin format and, winning four and losing one of their group games and winning the final game on a penalty shoot-out against Ringmahon Rangers.
This was a great victory in a tournament of high quality and the players fully deserved their reward after a skilful, spirited and disciplined display over a period of two long afternoons. The great team spirit and camaraderie of the team was borne out by the way the players conducted themselves over the two days.
What was especially pleasing about the victory was the performance of the players who were drafted in from the U15 second team. Due to the importance of the squad system in this tournament these lads played a major part in the cup win and the coaches of the U15 squad extend their thanks to Cillian Tallon, Danny Roche & Mark Hannon.
In the group games the team had victories over Greenwood (1-0), Coolock of Dublin (3-0), Wilton (4-0), and Temple United (4-0). Their only defeat at this stage was to Ringmahon Rangers but the team went on to beat them in the final.
This was the third tournament victory in as many years for this group of players, following on from their victory in this tournament last year and their victory in the prestigious Blackpool Cup having travelled to the English seaside town for that tournament in 2008.
