JOB OPPORTUNITY: Cobh Youth Services Ltd require a fully qualified Youth Worker

We are seeking an experienced, positive, creative and flexible, fully qualified Youth Worker, to manage and co-ordinate a high quality service for the young people attending the Centre, After-School and Youth Café of Cobh Youth Services Ltd.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, you will provide support to young people engaged with the service & will provide leadership to staff. You will build strong collaborative relationships with parents/guardians, local schools, Tusla, Cork ETB, Solas etc.  

Essential:

Minimum of BA (Level 7) in Youth Work/Youth & Community Care, or equivalent.

Minimum 3 years postgraduate experience in a co-ordinator/manager/supervisor role.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Familiar with relevant legislation and child protection policies.

Desirable:

Strong IT skills.

Budgeting experience.

Role Responsibilities (Include but not limited to)

  • Ensure compliance and best practice in all areas of Child Protection and Welfare in Cobh YS Ltd.
  • Provide leadership, line management and support to staff and ensure best practice.
  • Ensure that all policies are in line with government guidance and statutory requirements.
  • Plan, implement and review programmes for children and young people based on an assessment of group/individual needs.
  • Liaise effectively with statutory, community and voluntary bodies.
  • Gather information and prepare reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure all records and returns in relation to Pobal, payroll, supplier and contractor payments are managed in a timely manner.
  • Identify training needs and implement relevant training programmes.
  • Manage all aspects of the service within Cobh YS Ltd.

Person Specification

Education

  • Relevant Level 7 qualification in youth work.
  • Professional management qualification preferred.

Experience/Knowledge

  • Previous experience managing a youth service.
  • Knowledge of the Children’s first Act 2015 and Children’s First National Guidance for the protection and Welfare of Children 2017.
  • Knowledge of the Pobal system and funding applications.
  • Experience of implementing policies and procedures in line with Child Protection and Tulsa requirements.
  • Knowledge of youth sector practices, criteria and professional standards.

  • Strong Leadership Skills to motivate and develop staff to deliver a quality service.

Notes:

The role is subject to garda vetting.

Flexibility in working hours is a requirement for the position.

Contract is a 1 year fixed term; there will be a probation period of six months.
