Senior Women – Carrigaline 3-4 Springfield Ramblers

Missing a number of players the senior ladies were on the road for their second game of the short season knowing that they were in for a tough game against a Carrigaline team that narrowly lost out on promotion to the premier division last year…and so it proved!

The game was an even enough contest and remained 0-0 after 20 minutes until Carrigaline took the lead but that didn’t last long as Aoife O’Brien equalised from a free kick from outside the box.

Carrigaline then had a period of pressure before half time where they capitalised on a defensive mix up and a stunning 30 yard free kick to go into half time 3-1 up.

The girls took heart from their opening match second half comeback the previous week and started to press the home side from the whistle. A few minutes into the second half we were awarded a corner and from the ensuing scramble Aoife scored her second to bring it back to 3-2. It was all Springfield Ramblers for much of the half. Some brilliant football, a defence splitting pass by Amy Burns and a cool finish by Lauren Breen had the game back to 3-3.

The winning goal came soon after as the ever energetic Amy Burns beat the offside trap and raced in to slot home to the delight of the travelling supporters. The girls worked hard to keep their lead as Carrigaline kept coming but with a great team effort we were delighted to hear the final whistle. Well done ladies!
