‘Teen Talks’ will tour Cork County promoting positive mental health
Teen Talks, a Cork County Council initiative to promote positive mental health, fitness and well being to young people across Cork, will be held at Charleville Park Hotel on Thursday 28 February from 10a to 1pm.
Addressing key issues for students and young people today, Teen Talks will take place in North, East and West Cork in February and March, and will discuss health, nutrition, fitness and well being, as well as social media use and mental health issues. A fantastic line of speakers has been secured for the Teen Talks series including personalities like Kathryn Thomas, Anna Geary and Derval O’Rourke as well as former MMA fighter, positive mental health advocate and suicide survivor Graham McCormack and author, entrepreneur and fitness guru, Pat Divilly.
Speaking at the Teen Talks launch, Mayor of the County of Cork Cllr Patrick Gerard Murphy said, “As part of Healthy Cork, we are committed to supporting our young people and their health and well being. We are inviting transition year students across Cork to come to Teen Talks to hear from their peers, health and fitness experts and those who are experienced in creating coping mechanisms for the challenges that we face today. Teen Talks communicate important messages, in an engaging way, about life and positive changes you can adopt to help you live a healthy, happy life”.
“Teen Talks shine a bright light on important topics for young people living in Cork, and indeed Ireland. Thanks to the support of Healthy Ireland, Pobal and Local Community Development Committees (LCDCs), Cork County Council is rolling out the Teen Talks series to highlight health, nutrition and fitness to the people of Cork. This series of events supports our students, and really looks at ways to deal with school, family, health and social media challenges through the power of positive mental health, fitness and nutrition. We have a great line up of young speakers that will inspire and motivate students attending Teen Talks in Cork in 2019,” said Tim Lucey, CEO Cork County Council.
Secondary schools are invited to bring transition year students to the free Teen Talk events, which are taking place from 10am to 1pm at the Charleville Park Hotel on 28 February, in the Radisson Blu Little Island Hotel on 5 March and in Bantry’s West Lodge Hotel on 7 March.
