New Suicide Prevention & Self Harm Prevention Action Plan for Cork

Published

on

Connecting for Life (2015-2020) is Ireland’s national strategy to reduce Suicide & Self Harm Prevention. To bring this strategy to life by delivering meaningful outcomes, a number of Action Plans are being actively worked on across many areas of Ireland.

Aligning with this objective Connecting for Life Cork was launched on 26th June 2017 (following extensive consultation with key community groups, services and initiatives).

Here in Cork we will have 5 multidisciplinary working groups across the key areas of focus. These are Health and Wellbeing, Mental Health, Community Services, Priority Groups, Communications, Education and Training. The Chairpersons of these working groups will form the Implementation Steering Group which will provide strategic direction and leadership to ensure effective interagency co-ordination and collaboration in order to achieve the 72 actions identified in the plan.

Ronnie Dorney, HSE South and John Mansworth, Chairperson Breaking the Silence, have been asked to Co-Chair the Community Services Working Group.

In addition to John Mansworth’s invitation, Breaking the Silence has been invited to participate as follows:

John Lawlor – Member of the Education & Training Working Group

Avril Quinn – Member of the Community Services Working Group

This is a unique opportunity for our community to have a voice at the table at such pivotal moments of change in these very challenging areas. We will be working under the guidance of the overall national strategy, however the success of this work will only come from real solutions that will be designed in collaboration with local communities. Representatives come from many community areas and each of us can bring powerful feedback from the areas we represent. We will combine resources and draw on the great work that has been done to date. We will keep you informed as to the various outcomes of this body of work and at any stage you are very welcome to give us any ideas or input you might have.
