Towns and villages in Cork East Constituency are set to benefit from €35,000 in Government funding to mark 60th anniversary of Tidy Towns, says Cork East Fine Gael TD and Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton. Funding is being made available from the Department of Rural & Community Development via Pobal.

“The grant scheme is a once off investment to mark the 60th anniversary of the Tidy Towns competition in 2018 and is additional to the ongoing funding and support. It will allow each local Tidy Towns committee to apply to Pobal for grants of between €1000 for villages to €4000 for large urban centres. The scheme will be open to anyone who applied to enter the Tidy Towns competition in the last three years and each applicant will be contacted directly in the coming weeks

“The Tidy Towns competition inspires people to get involved in improving and maintaining the area where they live. Being a volunteer with Tidy Towns allows individuals to use their interests and skills for the good of their community, in built environment or local wildlife projects, landscaping, sustainable living, or organising a litter collection.

“A total of 21 Tidy towns Committees in Cork East can apply for this funding. The additional money is an acknowledgment of the amazing work that has been done by all these organisations and their commitment to their local communities.

“This investment is a further sign of the Government’s commitment to supporting our towns and villages. In October, €21.6 million in funding was announced under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme which will help revitalise over 280 towns and villages across rural Ireland.
