U14 Skechers Cup Final: Midleton 3-0 Springfield Ramblers
Hard luck to Springfield Ramblers U14s last night as they took on Midleton in the U14 Skechers Cup Final at Turners Cross. A very well fought battle from the Cobh side who put it up to an extremely strong undefeated Midleton team in this East Cork derby.
The sides met in the league back in September when Midleton did the business with a 5-1 win at home and in March we were treated to a seven-goal thriller at John Murphy Memorial Park with Midleton again taking the spoils 4-3, and going into this game with the physiological advantage.
With Midleton 1-0 up at the interval, Springfield came out battling in the second half creating some fine chances, but Midleton found the net again 20 minutes later with goal that took a deflection and left keeper Darragh Burke with no chance. There was however, a hint of offside in the run up to this goal although the linesman was having none of it. Springfield didn’t let the heads drop and kept on battling throughout and left themselves open at the back for yet another deflected goal.
A very entertaining game of ball overall, with both side showing moments of class that they should be proud of, and a special mention to Springfield’s Darragh Burke for a display of some outstanding goalkeeping, quick reflexes and sharp thinking. Well done Springfield Ramblers for a great team performance.
Congratulations to Midleton.
